Quiet Rustic Cabin

We had a great stay at this home! Our kids had a blast exploring the inside and outside space. The beds and linens were comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The listing was accurate and we made use of a lot of the amenities, including the ping pong table, corn hole, fire pit, DVD player, etc.

Our group had 4 adults and 4 children and plenty of extra space. I do think it would be tight with more than 12 people. It would be hard to have people sleeping on the pull-out couches in the living room, simply because the walls have quite a few cracks and sound carries throughout. But this is to be expected in a historic cabin.

We loved this cabin and would stay there again. We'd love to go back when it's warmer so our kids could play in the creek. I will say, if you're squeamish about bugs this might not be the best choice. There were multiple stink bugs in every room, and we killed a number of wasps. Not a big deal, but it's good to be aware of.

Also - the drive up the hill to the house is quite steep and narrow, and they're not kidding when they say "low bridge." It was a bit nerve wracking, especially since we had a rainstorm on our last night and the water level rose.

Overall, I would highly recommend this home! Thanks for providing a great stay!

Janeen was an amazing host and the cabin was lovely! It is a bit out of the way, but it was still so close (15 mins) to the central areas of Lexington, such as the hotel zone and downtown! For our uses, we were unable to fit a 55-passenger bus towards the cabin, so we had to come up with alternative plans for our purposes. This should not affect 99% of logistics, however. The reason for this was of a bridge that is required to get to the cabin that was not rated to take the full weight of the bus. Janeen herself was an amazing host! She responded very quickly to my inquiries, and she was super accommodating to the special requests I asked of her. Highly recommend her and this cabin!

Pictures do not do it justice!

This place exceeded our expectations! The space was perfect, the property was beautiful and the history of the place was preserved very well with appropriate updates. Plus you can't beat the price. The owners were so easy to get a hold of with questions and very pleasant to interact with. We are planning on making this an annual trip. Thank you so much for sharing this property and the new memories.

VMI Graduation

Willow Haven Cabin was a comfortable & well appointed place to stay. It was close to VMI and yet far enough away to have privacy on a beautiful piece of property. We had a wonderful time and made many great memories.

Willow Haven was amazing!

We had the most wonderful time at this cabin! A great was for all of us to disconnect from the world. Kids even swam in the river and saw a water snack. Our day trip to the Safari park was super fun! We will definitely be back ❤️

Simply charming cabin in the woods. The setting is idyllic and the cabin is unique. We had quite a large party, but were comfortably accommodated. There are three recently renovated bathrooms, although only one has a shower. We did have to schedule its use, but it worked out...plenty of hot water. All of us were gone all day which was a shame, because we would have liked to enjoy the porch a bit more, but it was very nice to come back to a cozy cabin and warm fireplace at the end of the day!

This roomy cabin is nestled back in the woods, right along the creek. It has a very unique floor plan. It was fun exploring each section of the house. Each bedroom had its own character. The back porch looked to be straight out of a magazine. Our family loved the large circle table in the kitchen with the fun lazy Susan in the middle. It was lovely place for us to stay.

Comfortable, family cabin.Creek at your backdoor.Convenient to everything great in the area.

We enjoyed catch and release fishing everyday at this cabin. It has all the modern conveniences in a cool historic package of rustic buildings. We had fun exploring the surrounding acreage and playing in the adjacent ping-pong shed. Away from downtown, but not too far, we found it a good base for our activities in the area during our week-long stay.

Wonderful cottage in a serene setting. Beautiful property!

The cottage was quaint and clean. It was adequate space for ten adult and six kids. The creek in the backyard was so peaceful. The grounds were lush and well kept. Wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to return some day!

Beautiful setting for this historic cabin!

We had a great time staying at Willow Haven Cabin! The cabin had everything we needed so that we were able to enjoy ourselves and celebrate our son's graduation from VMI! It is only a few miles away from VMI! Loved the history of the cabin and even when it was 90 degrees out the air conditioning worked great! Would definitely stay here again!

We love this property!

This was not our first time staying at this property and we love it. We love the seclusion, the space, the decor, the amenities, and just the feeling of stepping back in time. I can't say enough about the porch swing over looking the creek, we almost fought over who got to sleep on the porch swing. Willow Haven will always have a special place in our hearts, but alas our last child graduated from SVU, so unlikely we will have the opportunity to return.

Absolute perfection

Everything about this house, from the property itself to the owners’ hospitality, is perfection. Such kind, gracious, accommodating, and responsive owners who were so pleasant with every single exchange. The property itself was out of this world amazing. So perfect, secluded, beautiful, unique, comfortable, and well-stocked. Truly has everything you could possibly need in this cabin. The jet tub was amazing and the bed we stayed in was so comfortable. A perfect blend of old timey farmhouse and modern amenities. True perfection and we can not wait to return!

What a fabulous and cozy cabin! The Living Room is especially comfortable with the propane logs and decor. The floor plan is well laid out. My favorite spot is the rear, screened porch overlooking the Kerrs Creek. There was a herd of deer crossing when we arrived. My crew likes to cook so we were pleased how well the kitchen was appointed. I plan to return in the fall for more adventures around Lexington/VMI. I will be renting the cabin again! Thanks Tracey for your assistance.

Perfect for almost anything!

This is the perfect place to stay during any visit to Lexington/Rockbridge County. Property is situated so you feel removed from everything but you're only 10 minutes from grocery stores, VMI, W&L and downtown Lexington. House is configured in such a way that two families can vacation together but have their own space. Great for graduations, football week-ends or reunions. Only downside is that there is just one shower but it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. Owners are easy to work with and very accommodating. This was our second stay at Willow Haven and somehow I don' t think it will be our last.

So secculed loved the creek and wildlife. The pictures in VMI room and Washington Lee room were awesome. Lexington is the most beautiful place I've ever been and hope to move there one day

Perfect Spot for Reunion

We gathered with lifelong friends for a lovely two-night visit at the peak of fall foliage and couldn't have been happier! Everything we needed was provided for with no need to run out for coffee filters or anything else. We had a lovely evening sipping wine creek side with the lawn chairs, enjoyed long chats by the fireside, and relished preparing meals in a fully outfitted kitchen. Hope we can return in the next few years.

Great place for family vacation

From roasting marshmallows, making s'mores, catching fireflies, seeing hot air balloons float overhead, wading in the creek, playing games, or just sitting and relaxing, we all enjoyed the outdoors. Plenty of room indoors. Up to date appliances, bathrooms, are mixed with the charm of rustic cabin. Near to great sightseeing trips.

Awesome cabin in a beautiful setting.

There were 4 families getting together and this cabin had everything we needed to make the week stay wonderful. We had a bunch of kids, all under 9, who loved the creek, catching and releasing every crawfish that got in their nets. Everyone had their own space. I hope that we can return to this hideaway soon, and have already recommended this home to my friends. The town of Lexington with all it's interesting history was close enough for the 'old folks' to enjoy, and a Safari Park for the kids. Loved it!!!!

Should be named Willow Heaven Cabin

It was absolutely beautiful. The creek, the porch swing was heaven in the morning with the birds singing. We attended graduation at SVU for our daughter and our whole family fit comfortably in the cabin. I would come again and highly recommend it for a family gathering. I love Virginia.

Tranquil, secluded historical house

We stayed at Willow Haven Cabin over Spring Break/Easter 2017. We were there with a large group of family members from 7 months to 70 years-old.

It is a charming, tucked-away property on the banks of Kerr's Creek about 15 mins outside of Lexington. We enjoyed the peace, the setting and surroundings. We had summer-like weather which meant almost every day we were in the creek wading and swimming.

The kids loved playing in the creek and on the grassy banks, as well as the games room (which is a converted barn). We cooked out almost every night with the gas grill (thank you for having a propane refill on standby) and enjoyed fire pits under the stars.

What we most loved about this property was the historical feel and rustic charm and the expansive property. It was also great to be so close to Lexington which is a great little town with nice restaurants, stores and two universities with nice campuses. We enjoyed a carriage ride, lunch at the Southern Inn Restaurant, a trip to the farmers market, Boxwood Gardens (great for the kids) as well as walking around town.

Very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the spectacular Natural Bridge, as well as many other attractions. Close to grocery stories and other conveniences but very rural and private, about ten minutes off the main road going into Lexington on a beautiful, windy mountain valley road.

We would have loved a bigger kitchen because we are big cooks, but really nothing else we would change! Thank you!

Had a great time at the Willow Haven Cabin for out girls weekend out. The cabin is awesome, was just 3 of us but large groups would work out great also, lots of room inside and out. Beautiful location on the water plus close enough to downtown Lexington for great dinning and shops.
Highly recommend for any type of get away.

The Riverside Cottage was terrific! The location is perfect for visits to VMI and the cottage is beautiful and very comfortable. We have stayed in many VRBO in Lexington but this was the best and will definitely stay there again on our next visit.

Great Family Vacation House

This house very good for my large family. We are 15 people, adults and children of all ages. We found the web site was an accurate description of Willow Haven. The floor plan allowed space for various activities at once. The kitchen was big enough for cooking and serving dinners. The one cupboard door needs correct repair. Its hinges are incorrectly aligned with the door opening. Other than that, the storage and refrigerator were ample. The bedrooms were comfortable.
The house and setting are charming. My daughter in law exclaimed in delight at the setting and house as we first drove up. The creek was fun to watch. The girls beat the boys at the number of fish caught.
Now to my complaint. We managed but another family might have been most upset. The bathtub adjoining the VMI and W&L rooms leaked badly; as per the sign on the bathtub the shower hose was not used. So it must be the bathtub plumbing that is leaking. It would also be good to have another shower on the Willow side of the house. One shower is not enough for our family.
Despite this one problem, I would rent the house again. Our family enjoyed their stay

Perfect spot for family reunion!

The house is amazingly beautiful inside and the property is perfect for adults and kids to reconnect and enjoy each other. Enough space for four families incuding 7 kids to stay and for many more to come for barbecues and fun together. The kids loved chasing fireflies at night, playing ball in the large yard and just hanging out in a circle and talking on the lawn. We all realized again how much we like each other even though our familes span the continent and we rarely have the opportunity to connect in person.
